About Reground:

Reground Theatre Collective cultivates a community of, and fosters collaborative opportunities for, students and early-career artists in the Boston area. We believe artists of all types can benefit from a variety of learning environments, which is why we train collaboratively, with peers, without the names and strictures of academic and performing arts institutions. We feature works that combine mediums and that center the stories, identities, and perspectives of oppressed people.

In the past, we’ve produced two staged readings of full-length plays and a 10-minute play festival each year, but we’re working on moving to a new flexible programming model based on trimesters. We recruit more than 80 students and emerging artists per year in the form of organizational staff, playwrights, mentors, directors, actors, and other artists. We aim to reach as many different artists as possible, and have worked with students from more than 10 Boston universities. We offer a diverse community for emerging theatre artists to learn and experiment outside of their usual settings.

We are currently shifting our structure from a traditional top-down nonprofit organizational structure to a sociocratic collective-directed model. As we evolve the structure of the organization, we understand that roles, responsibilities, dynamics and expectations may be impacted and affect us each differently. We want to be flexible here, and make sure that everyone’s needs are being met. To learn more about sociocracy, click HERE.
